Yann Ehrlacher extends WTCR lead with a 1-2 victory at the Nürburgring
Yann Ehrlacher has extended his World Touring Car Cup points lead after a Lynk & Co Cyan Racing 1-2 with Thed Björk in the second race of the Nürburgring Nordschleife weekend.
The Frenchman finished third in the first race in Germany and then made his way past Honda driver Néstor Girolami in the second race to win by close to six seconds.
"After I managed to get past Girolami, I pushed like hell to make a gap and that was definitely one of the craziest laps of my career. A fantastic race. I am really happy about the win and to strengthen my points lead, a massive thanks to the team," said Yann Ehrlacher.
Thed Björk started fourth in the final race and made his way past two Honda drivers on the infamous 25km Nordschleife to finish second.
"It was so slippery on the Nordschleife, absolutely no room for any mistakes. I had a great race and a hard fight with Tassi. I am very pleased for the team to take this strong points haul," said Thed Björk.
Quadruple world champion Yvan Muller fought his way up through the field to finish seventh from tenth on the grid, fighting hard with Alfa Romeo driver Jean-Karl Vernay.
"Not a bad race at all. The weekend was weekend for the team in terms of points and speed. And Yann is on another planet. I was not on my best this weekend but I will be back for the next race," said Yvan Muller.
Uruguayan driver Santiago Urrutia started 16th and gained six places during the wet race to finish tenth and in the points.
"We finished in the points and that was the goal for today. I was a bit more cautious than yesterday and brought the car home without any damage. It was an up and down weekend with the crashes and good points. I am really happy for the team with another 1-2 and look forward to the next race," said Santiago Urrutia.
Yann Ehrlacher heads the drivers' standings with 92 points and Thed Björk has climbed to a joint second place with Honda driver Néstor Girolami on 61 points. Yvan Muller is just one point adrift in fourth position.
Cyan Racing Lynk & Co (Ehrlacher/Muller) has extended the teams' standings lead to 152 points, 51 more than Honda team Münnich Motorsport. Cyan Performance Lynk & Co (Björk/Urrutia) is just six points behind them in third place.
The next WTCR race takes place at the Slovakiaring on October 10-11.
