Three races in one day at fast Slovakiaring as frenetic WTCR schedule continues

2019-05-08

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing will drive three races in just one day during the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) race weekend at Slovakiaring, a circuit with an average speed of over 160 km/h.

"Scoring points and keeping the car in one piece is always important, but especially vital at Slovakiaring as we will drive three races in just one day," said Thed Björk, currently third in the championship.

"And on top of that, it looks like it could rain on the race day. We really need to work together as a team this weekend and I feel confident, we have a strong package that we are consistently improving."

The previous race weekend in Hungary saw plenty of crashes when the track turned wet and Yann Ehrlacher was on the receiving end, as well as scoring a strong podium finish.

"The races in Hungary were so tough and a lot of drivers went crazy. I was very happy with my podium, but I need to score more points in Slovakia, as well as the rest of the season," said Ehrlacher.

"Slovakiaring is a cool track, a very fast circuit and I like that. Our pace was definitely good in Hungary and that is one of the main things for the coming races."

Four-time World Champion Yvan Muller left the previous race in Hungary disappointed, scoring a strong second place in the first race, but retiring from the last.

"I was very unhappy after Hungaroring for many different reasons. But I am not here to think about what could or should have happened. The hectic schedule continues, and we need to keep delivering. The car is fast, and I don't doubt that we can challenge for the top in Slovakia," said Yvan Muller.

Andy Priaulx is eying a podium finish in Slovakia after taking important steps forward in Hungary, with the third in the Q1 session as his highlight.

“I am still waiting for that illusive podium as I get used to racing in this exciting series, but if feel very positive. After Hungary I know this is possible, as in Q1 I was only a few hundredths off pole and in third," said Priaulx.

"I am having to learn a new discipline, get used to a new championship, new team and new engineers, but I feel I am much closer to the pace in terms of performance. I am fighting hard, feel I have been a bit unlucky at times, but with such a professional team round me I know we can get up there to the top of the time sheets.”

An unusual schedule awaits the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing team in Slovakia as all testing and qualifying is done on Friday, no track activity on Saturday and three races on Sunday.

"The team was put through a baptism of fire between races two and three in Hungary after the crashes. Everyone fought hard to get the cars ready and in Slovakia it will be even tougher with three races in one day. There will be no room for error, but I have full confidence in that we have what it takes to be ready for what may come and again fight in the top," said Fredrik Wahlén, team manager of Cyan Racing.
