Lynk & Co Cyan Racing secures two podiums in crash-filled WTCR weekend

2019-04-28

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing managed to secure two podium finishes in a crash-filled FIA World Touring Car Cup weekend at the Hungaroring in Hungary.

Yvan Muller finished second in the first race of the weekend and Yann Ehrlacher crossed the line in third position in the final race.

"This podium was redemption after the last couple of tough races, it almost feels like a victory. The team worked so hard to repair my car in the short period of time between race two and three, I can't thank them enough for their great efforts," said Yann Ehrlacher.

The 22-year-old was taken out by Hyundai driver Gabriele Tarquini in the second race, causing major damage to his Lynk & Co 03 TCR.

Four-time World Champion Yvan Muller was forced to retire from the final race but performed a strong charge in the second race from 15th position to finish sixth. His best result of the weekend came in the first race when he claimed his first podium finish of 2019 with second place, just five tenths behind the winner.

"The pace in qualifying and the podium in the first race was really good, it was just very frustrating to end the weekend with a retirement after all that chaos. I am really fed up with this and it was a disappointing weekend," said Yvan Muller.

Thed Björk fought hard in the three races, securing fifth position in the final race. The Swede is third in the championship, despite retiring from the second race after being hit by Hyundai driver Norbert Michelisz.

"We had a really tough weekend but I am still pleased to have come away from it with a decent amount of points considering the circumstances. This is such a competitive championship and we still have plenty of areas to work on with our new race car. We need to continue pushing hard and score points consistently," said Thed Björk.

Andy Priaulx shared the tough fortunes of his team-mates this weekend but secured points in the first race of the weekend.

“It was a really tough weekend. It was promising in terms of qualifying performance, but the races didn’t go well. I had damage in race two and had to retire, but the team did a really good job turning the car round very quickly to get me out for the final race. Then, despite some damage, it was just a matter or finishing and getting some more time getting used to a front wheel drive car again," said Andy Priaulx.

Thed Björk is 19 points from the lead of the drivers' championship in third position, Yvan Muller has climbed to seventh, Yann Ehrlacher is tenth and Andy Priaulx 14th.

The team standings has Cyan Racing Lynk & Co (Björk and Muller) in second position and Cyan Performance Lynk & Co (Priaulx and Ehrlacher) in sixth position.

The 2019 season continues on May 10-12th with the FIA WTCR Race of Slovakia on May 10-12th.
