Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver Yann Ehrlacher secured a podium finish in a shortened and difficult FIA TCR World Tour weekend at The Bend in Australia.
The Australian race weekend was shortened from three to two races due to shipping delays.
Points leader Yann Ehrlacher secured third place on the grid for the first race, a position he maintained in the first race despite carrying 40 kilos of compensation weight.
"With 40 kilos of compensation weight, we didn’t expect to be in the fight. Yesterday we were two seconds off the pace, so we are happy with a podium," said Yann Ehrlacher.
"The team did a fantastic job with very little time between the containers arriving, shakedown, FP1 and qualifying, and I delivered one of the best qualifying laps of my career. The race went smoothly, luckily no safety car, because the Hyundais were much quicker in the straights. Tomorrow starting eighth, I won’t take risks. This weekend was about points, and I’ve scored more than I expected.”
The second race saw Yann Ehrlacher and Thed Björk driving a stable race to finish sixth and seventh respectively, bagging vital points for the championship.
Yann Ehrlacher continues on top of the standings, 36 points ahead of Honda rival Esteban Guerrieri while Thed Björk has moved up to third place overall, 17 further points behind.
The next FIA TCR World Tour place takes place at Inje Speedium in South Korea on October 17-19, racing together with the TCR Asia championship.
