Lynk & Co Cyan Racing extends TCR World Tour lead with two wins in Uruguay

2023-08-20

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing extended its TCR World Tour lead in Uruguay as Santiago Urrutia claimed a popular home win in Race 1 and Ma Qing Hua his first win for the team in Race 2.

Local hero Santiago Urrutia claimed pole position in qualifying and a lights-to-flag win in the first race.

“It’s been an unbelievable weekend in Uruguay! Pole position, Race 1 win for me and Race 2 win for Ma. I’m super happy and a big thank you to everyone who has made this possible, and especially to the crowd here that has been amazing. While this has been a great weekend, there are still many races to go and we need to keep working hard,” said Santiago Urrutia.

The second race saw Ma Qing Hua starting from the reversed grid pole position and netted his maiden TCR World Tour victory for the team, despite hard pressure from Hyundai driver Mikel Azcona.

“I’m missing words to describe this amazing feeling. It was a super hard race as Mikel was super-fast behind me. To be the first Chinese driver in a Chinese car to win an international touring car race is fantastic. A big thanks to everyone who has worked so hard together to make this possible,” said Ma Qing Hua.

Thed Björk made it a strong Lynk & Co Cyan Racing 1-2 in the first race while points leader Yann Ehrlacher secured a double podium in the second race, scoring vital points.

“It feels good to be on the podium and to secure some good points from the first race also from ninth on the grid. Now we turn our attention to Argentina, which is just one week away, where we will try to make the most of it and keep pushing,” said Yann Ehrlacher.

“I had a good qualifying session and first race with solid pace. It was fantastic to finish on the podium together with ‘Santi’ on his home track. It’s been a really good weekend for the team, and this is a boost for us ahead of the final four race weekends,” said Thed Björk.

The race weekend at Autódromo Victor Borrat Fabini has seen Lynk & Co Cyan Racing extend its team championship lead and Yann Ehrlacher the drivers’ championship lead.

There is no rest for the team as the next race at San Luis in Argentina is next weekend, August 26-27.

All races will be broadcast LIVE via the TCR TV streaming platform.
