Yann Ehrlacher wins at legendary Spa to climb TCR World Tour standings

2023-05-28

Two-time world champion and Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver Yann Ehrlacher claimed a victory in the TCR World Tour race weekend at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps, elevating him to second overall and the team to lead the standings.

“I’m super happy to score my first win of the season and Lynk & Co Cyan Racing’s second, especially at the fantastic Spa which is my home track this year. A big thanks to the team, it’s been hard work for everyone to get us here. The second race was very messy, and I hope the driving standards will improve for the next race,” said Yann Ehrlacher.

Lynk & Co 03 TCR driver Santiago Urrutia drove a solid race weekend in Belgium, joining team-mate Yann Ehrlacher on the podium in the first race and ending the weekend with a fourth-place finish in race two.

“A double podium is obviously a good result for the team, and we fought hard all weekend. I lost a couple of places at the start of the second race which I was able to fight back to finish fourth. Overall, this has been a good race weekend and we will push on for the next race in Italy,” said Santiago Urrutia.

Team-mates Thed Björk and Ma Qing Hua were in the middle of the action throughout the two Belgian races, securing a ninth and 13th place finish as their best result respectively.

“The final race was crazy, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many overtakes. It was hard work, but I scored some points and my engineer Paul manged to get a really good race setup. The season is still very long, and we will keep fighting,” said Thed Björk.

“The first race didn’t turn out the way we hoped with a stall at the start, but we managed to fight back. I got a great start in the second race, but had to slow down to avoid an incident ahead of me. Then the race was a big mess with drivers cutting corners without penalties. But, I’m already now fully focussed on the next race in Italy,” said Ma Qing Hua.

Yann Ehrlacher is placed second overall in the drivers’ standings, just three points from leading driver Norbert Michelisz while Santiago Urrutia is third, 18 points adrift.

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing heads the team championship, 37 points ahead of BRC Hyundai and 56 points ahead of Audi Sport Comtoyou.

The next TCR World Tour race takes place at Vallelunga in Italy on June 10-11.
