Quarter of a million fans flock as Lynk & Co Cyan Racing heads to legendary Nürburgring

2022-05-25

Close to a quarter of a million fans are expected to attend the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife 24 Hour event where Lynk & Co Cyan Racing will tackle the second FIA World Touring Car Cup race weekend of 2022.

Santiago Urrutia and Ma Qing Hua were the top scoring Lynk & Co 03 TCR drivers after the Pau-Ville season opener, scoring a podium each.

"I'm very excited to go racing again after a good first race weekend in Pau-Ville. The Nürburgring Nordschleife is very demanding and the goal is to score high points this weekend as well, we need to keep deliver points to the team. It will be amazing to race in front a huge crowd again, it definitely adds to the excitement for me as a driver," said Santiago Urrutia.

"We've got a huge weekend ahead of us after a strong start to the season in France. I've raced on the Nürburgring two times before, but unfortunately I missed the team's test here during the spring and I need to adapt quickly this weekend to score some good points," said Ma Qing Hua.

Yvan Muller will drive his seventh World Touring Car race at the Nürburgring this weekend, coming from a strong 2022 season start in which he scored a podium finish.

"We had a decent start to the season and we need to keep pushing forward this weekend. Driving on the Nordschleife is an event in itself and to have a large audience again adds to the exceptional side," said Yvan Muller.

Reigning double champion Yann Ehrlacher is keen to bounce back this weekend after a tough season opener where he had to retire from one of the races due to a puncture.

"My approach will be to claw back as many points as possible as we missed some during the last race in France, it was a bit painful to lose that many points. But I am definitely ready to fight this weekend as it was a long time since I was in a position like this, not defending. Racing on the Nürburgring is maybe the craziest thing you can do on this planet and it's really challenging to drive at 100% here, you are shaking after a really quick lap," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Thed Björk did not get the season opener he wanted either, crashing during qualifying after setting the fastest first sector of all, and had to fight back in both races.

"The Nürburgring race weekend is one of the highlights on the calendar and I've got many fond memories and results from the past. I am just as Yann keen to bounce back this weekend and I definitely think the opportunity for it is here. You do of course need to have a lot of respect for the Nordschleife, when people say that they love racing here, they are either lying or haven't gone fast enough," said Thed Björk.
