Cyan Racing celebrates 25 years with twin wins and extended WTCR lead

2021-11-07

Cyan Racing celebrated its 25th anniversary during the FIA World Touring Car Cup weekend at Adria Raceway in Italy where Yann Ehrlacher extended his points lead with a win and Santiago Urrutia made it two out of two.

The Swedish outfit has since its foundation in 1996 claimed four World titles and seven Scandinavian titles, currently fighting for its fifth World title in the 2021 WTCR season.

"We have had an amazing journey so far and to celebrate our 25th year of racing with such a strong result is a true testament to the amazing efforts by everyone in the team," said Christian Dahl, founder and owner of Cyan Racing.

"It's less than four years since we claimed our first World title and now we are in contention for our fifth. Here is to another 25 strong and exciting years."

Reigning WTCR champion Yann Ehrlacher started the main race from pole position and never looked back after a strong start. The Lynk & Co 03 TCR driver headed the field from lights to flag - extending his points lead to 35 points ahead of the season finale.

"Our main goal for this weekend was to win and to extend our points lead. We have done just that, and I can't thank the team enough, because the car was amazing this weekend. The result was especially enjoyable as the team celebrates its 25th anniversary. We have one very important round left of the championship and we will fully focus on that now," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Santiago Urrutia made it two wins from two races for the team after a tough fight in the first race. The Uruguayan driver made a strong move on Honda driver Esteban Guerrieri to claim his second victory of 2021.

"I'm super happy to claim my second win and I'm really proud of the team, they gave me a great car. Overall, this has been a very good weekend as we collected a lot of points. Things are looking good for the last race, but we have to focus to keep fighting hard," said Santiago Urrutia.

Yvan Muller and Thed Björk drove two solid races, with the French driver finishing fourth and fifth while the Swede finished 13th and eighth.

"The races at Adria were eventful and I pushed as hard as I could to maximise the points. My results this weekend have not been too bad and we have most importantly extended our lead in both championships," said Yvan Muller.

"I was pushed off by Magnus in the final race and I'm not happy about that. But I am happy for Santi and Yann who were able to win, so a great weekend overall for the team," said Thed Björk.

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing has extended its team championship lead, heading Audi team Comtoyou Racing by 63 points ahead of the season finale at Sochi in Russia that takes place on November 27-28.
