No room for error in penultimate WTCR round at Adria

2021-11-03

There is no room for error as Lynk & Co Cyan Racing heads to Adria International Raceway in Italy for the penultimate FIA World Touring Car Cup round of 2021.

The 2021 season has proven to be the closest in many years with 10 winners in 12 races and plenty of drivers still in the title fight.

Yann Ehrlacher heads the standings by 16 points after a fighting weekend in France three weeks ago.

"This is the first time I will race at Adria but I think we will be strong here. We have to be on the absolute edge as always and deliver in each session. We're heading the standings but there are many drivers that can challenge us in the remaining races. My main focus is to win races this weekend and I can't wait to get going," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Yvan Muller, who claimed a pole and a podium in the previous race, is fifth overall, just one point ahead of colleague Santiago Urrutia, who also claimed a podium in France.

"Adria will be a new circuit for me. But there is no change in strategy because of that or because it's the penultimate round. The strategy is as always flat out," said Yvan Muller.

"It's another new track for me, but it's new for almost everyone as they've rebuilt the circuit. We had some issues with our starts in the previous race and we have worked on that ahead of this weekend. It will be extremely vital to score the points in Italy to arrive for the season finale in Russia with a good chance of securing the titles. Our goal is very clear for Adria and it is to win and to put everything together," said Santiago Urrutia.

Thed Björk trails the top of the standings by 47 points with 120 points still left to be fought for in the two remaining race weekends of 2021.

"I'm expecting a really tough fight that's just going to get tougher for each of the remaining races this season. Our position is strong but we have to fight for it. I think Adria has the potential to provide some really entertaining races as it a lot of hairpins where it's possible to overtake. I'm ready!" said Thed Björk.

The WTCR Race of Italy starts on Saturday this weekend with practice and qualifying, followed by two races on Sunday that are broadcast LIVE: eurosportplayer.com
