Lynk & Co Cyan Racing confirms 2021 WTCR programme - The world champions are back

2021-03-18

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing, the reigning touring car world champions, will be back with four Lynk & Co 03 TCR race cars for the 2021 WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup season.

"2020 marked the most successful year in the history of Cyan Racing and we have by no means lowered our aim for 2021," said Christian Dahl, CEO and founder of Cyan Racing.

"We do however expect an even tougher challenge this year, especially with an expanded calendar and an as competitive field as ever."

Yann Ehrlacher, who became the youngest ever WTCR champion last year, heads to the new season as the one everyone wants to beat.

"I am incredibly proud to start the season as champion with the team after what was the best season of my life last year," said Yann Ehrlacher.

"But anyone assuming I would be less motivated or ready for a new challenge in 2021 would be deeply mistaken. I have longed for this season ever since the 2020 season finale and I am very much ready."

Vice-champion Yvan Muller will once again team up with his nephew, chasing his fifth world title in 2021.

"Anyone who knows me knows that I am only here to win and that goes for everyone in Lynk & Co Cyan Racing," said Yvan Muller.

"I will start my 16th world touring car season this year and I am as motivated as when I drove my first in 2006."

Santiago Urrutia won the last WTCR race of the 2020 season, ending his debut WTCR season on a high after finishing on the podium in four of the last six races.

"I want to pick up right where I left off in the season finale when I claimed two poles and my first WTCR victory," said Santiago Urrutia.

"I really feel at home in the team after my debut season and I aim to keep moving forward. My ultimate goal is of course that we win as a team and for me personally to become world champion. I hope that I can make everyone proud who has helped me in my racing career this year."

The Uruguayan driver will once again team up with 2017 world champion Thed Björk who will start a record-breaking tenth straight season with Cyan Racing.

"I am really proud to be a part of the journey the team has done since 2012 and it boosts my confidence that they put their faith in me for a tenth straight season," said Thed Björk.

"My goal for 2021 is firmly set on taking a big step forward in the results and to challenge for the very top step of the standings."

Cyan Racing became world champions for the fourth consecutive year in 2020, claiming a first double for Lynk & Co by securing both the drivers' and teams' titles.

The 2021 WTCR season has been expanded from six to eight race weekends for a total of 16 race heats in Europe and Asia, starting in June at the fearsome Nürburgring Nordschleife and ending in November at the mythical street race Macau.
