Yann Ehrlacher keeps WTCR lead after difficult Slovakiaring weekend

2020-10-11

Yann Ehrlacher keeps the lead of the World Touring Car Cup despite a difficult race weekend at the Slovakiaring.

The 24-year-old struggled in qualifying with maximum compensation weight and started 15th in all three races, fighting his way to ninth, eighth and eleventh respectively.

"It was very difficult conditions for us this weekend. We were expecting to score four or five points and in the end we got 20. But still, I am not happy about this weekend at all. We need to push on for further improvements ahead of the next race weekend," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Santiago Urrutia was the highest placed Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver in qualifying and in the final race with eighth position, leaving the weekend frustrated following incidents with competitors.

"There were a lot of incidents, but at least I could finally race in the third race as I didn't get hit by anyone. It has been a tough weekend for the team, but we are going to work hard to get back and we are still there in the top of the standings," said Santiago Urrutia.

Yvan Muller put on a strong show in the second race, jumping from 14th on the grid to seventh on the opening lap. Unfortunately the quadruple world champion was hit by a competitor and dropped down the order, finishing ninth as his best result of the weekend.

"All races were quite similar for me in terms of performance and result. We had a big issue in the front axle of my car. We have to analyse everything to understand what is going on," said Yvan Muller.

Thed Björk, who was second in the standings ahead of the weekend, had a difficult weekend marred by technical issues and finished 15th in the final race as his best result.

"I had an engine problem and started from the back of the grid, something we need to figure out ahead of the next race. I couldn't do much from there and I'm already mentally in the next race weekend," said Thed Björk.

Yann Ehrlacher heads the drivers' standings on 112 points, 20 points ahead of Audi driver Tom Coronel.

Cyan Racing Lynk & Co (Ehrlacher/Muller) heads the teams' standings on 185 points, 19 points ahead of Audi team Comtoyou Racing, with Cyan Performance Lynk & Co (Björk/Urrutia) fourth on 110 points.

There is no rest for the team as the coming race at the Hungaroring takes place next weekend on October 17-18.
