Intense WTCR season continues at the Green Hell

2020-09-22

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing heads to the second round of the intense 2020 FIA World Touring Car Cup season at the toughest circuit in the world, the 25km Nürburgring Nordschleife, nicknamed the Green Hell.

Yann Ehrlacher started the 2020 WTCR season best of all two weeks ago at the Zolder season opener to claim pole position, victory and the championship lead.

"Everything felt really good at the season start and we're leading both championships. Now we are facing the most challenging race of the year and I'm looking forward to that. The ambition is to maximise the points and keep the lead that we have, but it is no doubt going to be tough," said Yann Ehrlacher.

The Nürburgring races will be an extraordinary challenge for Santiago Urrutia, who scored a podium finish on his debut for the team at Zolder, who never before has raced at the legendary circuit.

"We've got a very, very awesome weekend ahead of us at the Nürburgring. We had a perfect start to the season, now we are going to the most difficult weekend of the year, especially for me. I need to adapt myself very quickly and it will be very important to not make any mistakes, at the same time bringing as much points as possible," said Santiago Urrutia.

Quadruple world champion Yvan Muller was the second best points-scorer of Lynk & Co Cyan Racing at Zolder, currently placed third overall, and drove his first race on the Nordschleife in 2015.

"We had a good first race of the year at Zolder, but the Nordschleife is something entirely different. All races are important, but especially this one as a small mistake could mean that you are out for the rest of the weekend. We need to continue working hard and score consistently," said Yvan Muller.

The weather forecast promises for traditional Nürburgring weather with rain showers and low temperatures in stark contrast to the previous race in Belgium.

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing completed a test at the Nordschleife earlier this year when the team also faced treacherous weather conditions.

"We're heading to the Nürburgring in a positive spirit after Zolder. But to head to the Nürburgring expecting everything to be easy, that's never going to work. This race is the highlight of the season, as well as the toughest race that we will face this year. If we can head home from the Nürburgring with a solid score of points, we should be really pleased and I think the conditions are there for it," said Thed Björk.

The WTCR runs together with the Nürburgring 24 hour GT race, meaning a unique schedule with free practice and qualifying on Thursday, the first race on Friday and the second race on Saturday.
