Yann Ehrlacher extends WTCR Esports lead as Thed Björk claims maiden podium

2020-07-13

Yann Ehrlacher extended his points lead of the Pre-season Esports WTCR Championship with a podium finish in the penultimate round at the virtual version of the fearsome Macau street circuit.

Thed Björk meanwhile opened his virtual podium account with his best finish of the Esports season, finishing second in the second race.

Ehrlacher had qualified second for the first race and kept that position throughout the race despite hard pressure from behind by Honda driver Néstor Girolami.

The second race had Björk starting from the reversed grid pole position and was involved in a tough fight for the lead with Hyundai rival Norbert Michelisz.

Björk was close to the Hungarian driver throughout the race, but had to settle for second place.

Ehrlacher meanwhile fought his way up to fifth position until he hit the stranded Cupra of Mikel Azcona, dropping him to finish seventh.

The results was enough for Ehrlacher to extend his championship lead to nine points over Michelisz ahead of the season finale at the virtual version of Sepang on July 19th.
