Flash report: Yann Ehrlacher claims top three position in Vila Real qualifying

2019-07-07

Yann Ehrlacher was just as yesterday the top Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver in the FIA World Touring Car Cup qualifying at Vila Real, claiming the third fastest time.

"It was a good qualifying session for us. I struggled a bit as I hit the wall in Q2, then I had to recover from this to head into Q3. I had old tyres in Q3, so third feels quite an achievement. We lost a dear colleague yesterday and this result definitely goes to him. A big thanks to the team, especially during these circumstances to provide me with such a great car," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Yvan Muller also made it into Q3 and qualified fourth fastest, just 0.164 seconds from his nephew and team-mate Yann Ehrlacher.

Thed Björk had a tough first qualifying session, only managing the 15th fastest time and was eliminated from Q2 and Q3. The Swede will start from 15th position in both of the remaining races this weekend.

"I had traffic on my laps, but we lacked some pace unfortunately. Vila Real is a notoriously difficult circuit to pass on, but I will of course fight hard and try to gain positions in the races," said Thed Björk.

Andy Priaulx struggled as well and posted the 18th fastest time, less than a second from the fastest time in the very competitive FIA World Touring Car Cup field.

Next up is the second race of the Vila Real weekend, starting at 15:30 local time/16:30 CEST.
