Flash report: Thed Björk leads historic Lynk & Co Cyan Racing 1-2-3-4 at Zandvoort

2019-05-18

Thed Björk claimed his first FIA World Touring Car Cup pole position of 2019, leading a historic 1-2-3-4 with team-mates Yvan Muller, Andy Priaulx and Yann Ehrlacher right behind.

"A fantastic result for the team and I am very happy to claim my first pole this year. We really had to change the setup of the car from the races in Slovakia and we have found our way back to the grip. People might say that it is due to the power, but for me it is the setup, no doubt," said Thed Björk, who claimed five points to the championship thanks to the pole.

Four-time World Champion Yvan Muller was just 73 thousands of a second behind his team-mate in second place.

"It was a surprise claim the top four positions but at the same time not a surprise as there are a lot of corners here and our car performs really well in these kind of conditions. A great result for the team but I was a bit too cautious in turn seven and eight, that cost me some time," said Yvan Muller.

Andy Priaulx claimed his best so far result for Lynk & Co Cyan Racing with third position on the grid, two tenths from pole position.

"That was a breakthrough moment for me, I know what I need from the car now in terms of setup that suits me. That was a very nice moment for me. I didn't know that I could play for the top today as I was 14th yesterday," said Andy Priaulx.

A further 0.117 seconds behind Andy Priaulx was Yann Ehrlacher after topping the time sheets earlier in the qualifying session.

"I am really happy for everyone in the team, especially after the tough time we had in Slovakia last weekend. I would of course have liked to be on pole personally but the second row on the grid is a good position for the race," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Update: Yann Ehrlacher was given a five-place grid penalty for blocking Augusto Farfus during qualifying and will instead start ninth on the grid for the first race.

The first race of the weekend starts at 14:35 CEST.
