Flash report: Yann Ehrlacher bounces back in super-close qualifying

2019-04-28

Yann Ehrlacher bounced back from yesterday's retirement to secure a strong third in a super-close final FIA World Touring Car Cup qualifying session at the Hungaroring.

"I am very happy to be in the top, especially after the trouble we had yesterday. Four hundredths of a second from pole is very tight and I know exactly where I lost that time. We have two tough races ahead of us today, there is no doubt about that with this super-close field," said Yann Ehrlacher.

The 22-year-old was just 0.040 seconds from pole position and 23 cars were within one second of the first qualifying session. Third place in qualifying awards the Frenchman three points to the drivers' championship.

Thed Björk was second best of the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing drivers in seventh position, just 0.020 seconds from making it onto the final Q3 qualifying session.

Three-time World Champion Andy Priaulx was third fastest in Q1 but dropped down to finish 12th in Q2, just two tenths from making it to Q3.

Yvan Muller was disappointed after qualifying, finishing 15th in the first part of the session.

"The car was good but we just didn't get it right. And when the field is so close, this is where you end up when you don't get everything 100%," said Yvan Muller.

The penultimate race of the Hungarian WTCR weekend starts at 15:30 CEST and the final race at 17:00 CEST.
