Flash report: Yvan Muller and Thed Björk in the top three of qualifying

2019-04-07

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing drivers Yvan Muller and Thed Björk were once again in the top of the final FIA World Touring Car Cup qualifying session of the season opener in Marrakech.

The field was extremely closely matched with 24 drivers within one second of the first part of qualifying. Muller claimed second position on the grid for the final race and team-mate Björk third position.

"The car worked really well and I am very happy to put Lynk & Co into Q3 on our first attempt," said Muller.

"Pole position is of course always our target, but for me and Yvan to claim two of the top three positions in this very close session feels fantastic," said Björk.

Yann Ehrlacher missed the final Q3 session with a mere 54 thousands of a second and had to settle for sixth position on the grid.

"I had some issues and to despite that get so close to Q3 feels good," said Ehrlacher.

Three-time World Champion Andy Priaulx had a tough qualifying session and will start 17th in the two final races.

"We didn't get it right and I had some traffic on my best lap. But this is part of my process of getting back into the championship and we will fight hard in the races," said Priaulx.

The second race of the weekend features a reversed grid where Ehrlacher will start fifth, Björk eighth, Muller ninth and Priaulx 17th.

The third and final race of the weekend will start according to the result of qualifying with Muller second, Björk third, Ehrlacher sixth and Priaulx 17th.

Race 2 starts at 16:45 local time / 17:45 CEST and Race 3 at 18:15 local time / 19:15 CEST.
