Flash report: Front row in Lynk & Co Cyan Racing's first WTCR qualifying

2019-04-06

The Lynk & Co Cyan Racing drivers put the all-new Lynk & Co 03 TCR race car on the front row in the first qualifying of the 2019 FIA World Touring Car Cup season opener.

Four-time World Champion Yvan Muller was second fastest, just 0.239 seconds from pole position, with team-mate Thed Björk right behind him in third, 37 thousands of a second slower.

"It was a good lap time, unfortunately I could not take part in the rest of the session due to the damage and I was only able to set one fast lap. We will see how things goes, but most likely I will have to start from the back of the grid," said Muller.

"I am quite happy with our first qualifying session of the year and with our new Lynk & Co Cyan Racing programme. We have a good starting position for the race which of course is an unknown where we are regarding race pace compared to our competitors," said Björk.

As the session was finished, the WTCR organisation confirmed a penalty for Muller, moving him from second place to 26th and last place. He sustained damage to his car while going over a curb and the team had to change engine.

Three-time World Champion Andy Priaulx improved vastly towards the end of the session, claiming the fourth fastest time, 0.365 seconds from pole. Team-mate Yann Ehrlacher claimed eighth position.

The qualifying session awards points to the championship, meaning four points to Björk and two points to Priaulx.

Next up is the first race of the weekend, starting at 16:50 local time / 17:50 CET, lasting for 18 laps.
