Prince Carl Philip and Thed Björk fights back to the podium at Anderstorp

2018-06-17

Lotus Cyan Racing drivers Prince Carl Philip and Thed Björk turned around a tough Swedish GT weekend at Anderstorp Raceway to finish second in the final race from sixth on the grid in very wet conditions.

“Finishing on the podium was a nice comeback after the tough start to the weekend and the Lotus worked great in the wet conditions. We knew this was a tough track for us and to head home with a second and fifth place finish isn’t too bad,” said Prince Carl Philip.

A heavy rain shower passed over the Anderstorp circuit moments before the second race, meaning a tough job for the team to change the setup after a dry qualifying session yesterday.

Prince Carl Philip started the second race and climbed from class sixth position on the grid to second position when handing it over to Björk. The reigning WTCC champion maintained the position, finishing a mere four seconds from the winning GTB class driver.

“I am impressed by Prince Carl Philip’s pace in the difficult conditions, he did a great job. I am happy with the weekend overall, we delivered strong results despite tough conditions and Prince Carl Philip has climbed the points standings which was my main objective,” said Thed Björk.

The first race of the weekend saw Björk and Prince Carl Philip finishing fifth in the GTB class.

Prince Carl Philip has climbed from fifth to third in the drivers’ championship after two rounds with the next race scheduled for August 18-19th at Karlskoga.

“The drivers and team were given almost all possible challenges this weekend with torrential rain and a circuit that is the toughest of the calendar for us. They fought back in an inspiring way and to end the weekend with a strong podium finish is proof of the great work by everyone involved,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Geely Group Motorsport.
