Prince Carl Philip joined by WTCC star in penultimate Swedish GT race

2017-08-31

Prince Carl Philip will be joined by Polestar Cyan Racing’s Dutch WTCC star, Nicky Catsburg for the penultimate Swedish GT round at the former F1 circuit, Anderstorp, this weekend.

Nicky Catsburg, who is currently fourth in the 2017 WTCC for Polestar Cyan Racing, said: ”This is a completely new challenge for me with a car and circuit that I have never driven, but I am very much looking forward to it. My goal is very clear for the weekend at Anderstorp and it is to support Prince Carl Philip in his fight for the title.”

The previous race weekend at Karlskoga saw Prince Carl Philip securing a victory and podium finish, elevating him to third, just six points from championship leaders and Ferrari drivers, Fredrik Larsson and Ingvar Mattsson.

”Karlskoga was our best weekend so far this year and it feels good to have that with us going to Anderstorp. We will have to fight harder than ever this weekend but I am up for it and I am glad to have Nicky on-board. He is a very fast driver and hopefully we can stand on the podium together,” said Prince Carl Philip.

Anderstorp is one of the fastest circuits in Sweden and will potentially be one of the toughest race weekends of the calendar for Polestar Cyan Racing.

”There are always a few particularly difficult rounds during a season and this is one of them as, due to the current regulations, we have competitors with several hundred horse powers more than us. Nonetheless, we will fight hard to secure as many points as possible to create strong position for the season finale,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.

About Polestar

Polestar is Volvo Car Group’s performance road car brand and was founded by Polestar Racing, today known as Cyan Racing. Polestar’s birth was a result of Cyan Racing’s race engineers desire to explore how technology behind the multiple title-winning success in racing could be applied to the performance of road going Volvo cars, on all roads and conditions in everyday life. The first road-going performance Concepts were launched in 2010 and the first performance cars, based on the Volvo S60, were ready in 2012. In 2015, Volvo Cars acquired Polestar Performance. Today, Polestar builds the S60 and V60 Polestar, 367 hp performance road cars with over 250 developments over-and-above the standard Volvo products. It also offers Polestar Engineered performance hardware upgrades and engine software optimisations for existing Volvo products.

In the future, Polestar will become a new separately-branded electrified high-performance car company. Polestar will offer a portfolio of bespoke Polestar branded cars that will no longer carry a Volvo logo. Polestar will enjoy specific technological and engineering synergies with Volvo Cars and benefit from significant economies of scale as a result of its connection to Volvo. These synergies will allow it to design, develop and build world beating electrified high performance cars.
