STCC title battle still wide open after Solvalla qualifying

2016-09-02

Polestar Cyan Racing team-mates Richard Göransson and Robert Dahlgren are still locked in a hard Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) title fight after qualifying at Solvalla where Göransson pulled away by just two points.

The four-time champion was fourth fastest in Q1, that awards points to the championship, beating Dahlgren by a mere 24 thousands of a second.

”It was a weird qualifying session, I had no grip at all. We need to work hard and do our job properly for tomorrow, it is still possible for ut to win races. The only positive thing is that I increased my lead to Robert by two points,” said Richard Göransson.

Dahlgren, who was fastest in testing despite carrying the most penalty weight of all drivers in the field, dropped to fifth position in Q1 and Q2.

”I am really disappointed, we went the wrong way with the setup and there was just no grip as we came from testing to qualifying. Both races tomorrow will be really eventful as we will start in the middle of the pack,” said Robert Dahlgren.

Prince Carl Philip made it into the Q2 session for the first time this session and will start eighth for the first race and third for the second.

”We still have more work left to be done with the car, but I am really pleased to make it to Q2. I aim to keep it cool and to improve further tomorrow,” said Prince Carl Philip.

Tomorrow features two of the remaining four races this season with a lot at stake for Polestar Cyan Racing title rivals Göransson and Dahlgren.

”We still have 125 points left to fight for this season and with just 13 points between Richard and Robert, the game is still wide open between them. The two are very closely matched at Solvalla, promising for a thrilling fight tomorrow,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.

The first race of tomorrow starts at 12:30 CET, follow the team live at: http://stcc.polestar.com
