Three podiums from heavy STCC weekend at Anderstorp
Polestar Cyan Racing left the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) weekend in Anderstorp with three podium finishes and a continued double championship lead, despite drivers Robert Dahlgren and Richard Göransson carrying 50 kilos of penalty weight.
The Polestar Cyan Racing duo secured a double podium in the first race with Dahlgren crossing the line in second place and Göransson in third. That result and a fifth place in the second race means that Dahlgren extends his lead by three points over team mate Göransson.
”This has been an okay weekend, not far from as good as it could get with 50 kilos onboard. But what I am most proud of is that I qualified second, just one tenth from pole, despite the extra weight. I have extended my championship lead which was my goal for this weekend,” said Robert Dahlgren.
Four-time STCC champion Göransson secured two podium finishes after fighting his way from sixth to second place in the final race of the weekend.
”I am quite pleased with the races at Anderstorp and that I just lost three points to Dahlgren. I wasn’t happy with the car after the first race, but we made some changes for the second that worked really well and I’m looking forward to the next race with confidence,” said Richard Göransson.
Prince Carl Philip had a tough weekend with ninth position in the second race as best result.
”I am not happy with the weekend. We moved in the right direction with the setup of the car, but we never really got where we wanted. I am looking forward to the next race in Falkenberg where I scored my maiden win last year,” said Prince Carl Philip.
Dahlgren heads the drivers’ championship on 161 points, with Göransson second on 151 points after three of the seven race weekends completed of the 2016 season.
”To claim two podiums at Anderstorp Raceway, holy motorsport grounds in Sweden, is a special feeling. Unfortunately we could not get around the fact of 50 kilos of penalty weight. But two second place finishes is probably an optimum result considering the circumstances,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.
STCC continues in three weeks at Falkenberg.
