Thed Björk claims historic STCC title for Polestar Cyan Racing

2015-09-26

Polestar Cyan Racing driver Thed Björk wrote history in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season finale at Knutstorp by becoming the first ever driver to claim three consecutive titles.

”I am beyond words on how awesome this is! I have fought so hard to get to this stage of my career and to become the first ever driver to take three consecutive titles is something I will carry with me for ever. A huge thanks to everyone in the team, we have done this together!” said Björk.

Team mate Fredrik Ekblom had an almost perfect weekend where he claimed a double victory, Polestar Cyan Racing's 100th victory, dominating both races to finish second overall in the championship, just 10 points behind Björk.

”I am proud over my double victory, my best weekend under the current regulations. I came close to the title, but not close enough. I can only congratulate Thed, he has done an awesome job. We’ve had a great season as well, just not enough to beat my team mate. But I am very happy for him and the team, to together claim a double title for the third time in succession,” said Ekblom.

After winning the first race from pole position, Ekblom made a strong charge in the second race to win from ninth position on the grid.

Prince Carl Philip had a weekend of ups and downs where he qualified a strong sixth, a result he followed up with eighth in the first race and tenth in the second race. The result means that Prince Carl Philip secures his first ever top ten finish in the drivers championship.

”There were some unfortunate incidents in the races, but I am pleased with my pace and especially to make it to Q2 for the second time this year. This has been my best so far STCC season and I am looking forward to make it even better next year,” said Prince Carl Philip.

Polestar Cyan Racing writes history as well by becoming the first ever team to claim three straight STCC team titles. The new record comes as the team celebrates 20 years that has resulted in 16 titles, 100 victories, 223 podium finishes and 89 pole positions.

”I am extremely proud of Thed, Fredrik, Prince Carl Philip and everyone in the team. Our 20th anniversary could not have been crowned in a better way and this spurs us even further ahead of our future challenges,” said Christian Dahl of Polestar Cyan Racing.
