STCC title decider next up as Polestar Cyan Racing celebrates 20 years

2015-09-25

The 2015 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship title will be decided in the season finale at Knutstorp this weekend that marks 20 years for Polestar Cyan Racing in Swedish motorsport. The team has claimed 15 titles, 98 victories, 219 podium finishes and 88 pole positions since 1996.

”This is a proud weekend for us all in the team and the fact we have two of our drivers in the title fight makes it even sweeter. Our goal is to crown our 20th anniversary in the best possible way by further extending our title and victory statistics,” said Christian Dahl of Polestar Cyan Racing.

Drivers Thed Björk and Fredrik Ekblom are the main contenders to the 2015 STCC title with Björk heading the standings, as he has done since the season start, 23 points ahead of Ekblom.

Björk is also in with a shot to become historic this weekend by being the first ever STCC driver to claim three consecutive titles.

”I have a great feeling ahead of the weekend and an excellent position in the points. With that said, I can in no way relax. My goal is firmly set on becoming the first ever driver to take three titles back to back, but my team mate is not far behind and I need to be on the very top of my game,” said Björk.

Ekblom needs to outscore Björk by eight points per qualifying session and race heat in order to become champion, something the triple champion is not focused on.

”I know the maths but I can only do one thing and that is to give my absolute best, trying to outscore Thed in the races. Qualifying is key to this and I feel confident ahead of Knutstorp, I claimed pole position last time we were here and the track is one of my favourites. I will keep my head down and get on with business,” said Ekblom.

Prince Carl Philip will start his third ever STCC season finale this weekend in his best so far championship position.

”This has been my best so far STCC season and I am keen to finish the season on a high. I like Knutstorp and I hope to continue to fight for the top ten positions,” said Prince Carl Philip.

The 2015 STCC season finale starts on Friday with testing and qualifying while the final two races of this year are held on Saturday.
