Lynk & Co Cyan Racing returns to the streets of Macau for the first time since 2019 in an epic TCR World Tour title fight where three drivers are separated by just two points.
The team heads to Macau Circuito da Guia the weekend after it secured the team world title following a victorious weekend at the legendary Bathurst circuit in Australia – Cyan Racing’s sixth team world title in seven years.
Yann Ehrlacher is in contention for his third touring car World Title this weekend, currently in a joint points lead with title rival Rob Huff, while Norbert Michelisz is just one point further behind.
“It’s a childhood dream to follow the likes of Yvan Muller and other great drivers to head to Macau in the world title fight. The title fight is very close, and anything can happen in Macau which is the paradise for gambling. And it’s the same on track where you can win or lose everything in one moment. I have 40kg of compensation weight while my rivals have 0kg, so I have to go for maximum attack. But I feel relaxed, we have done a great job as a team to recover after Australia and claim the team title. Now we are just going to send it,” said Yann Ehrlacher.
Ma Qing Hua is an experienced Macau racer, most recently claiming victory in the 2021 Macau race weekend with TCR Asia and has got a big following at the legendary street circuit.
“This year is very special as this is my first year racing at Macau with Cyan Racing and it’s the 70th Macau GP. My target is to win this weekend, I have no compensation weight and I have no pressure. The goal for us as a team is of course to secure the drivers’ title with Yann and we will work together,” said Ma Qing Hua.
Thed Björk is the second best placed Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver in seventh place overall, just 13 points from fourth place, and heads for his fourth Macau race this year.
“Macau is a magical place and I’m thrilled to be back here after a four-year break. I’m headed to Macau boosted by a fantastic Bathurst weekend and I’m confident that we can be back fighting for the top three places again. Qualifying is really important here and we have to fight together as a team in our quest to secure the drivers’ title in the races. I’m ready!” said Thed Björk.
Santiago Urrutia meanwhile will make his Macau debut this year, facing an immense challenge as his first-ever laps on the street circuit will be during the first free practice session on Thursday.
“This is the most challenging circuit of the year, especially for me who has never raced here before. You cannot make any mistakes here; you must be very sure of every move that you make. My goal is to learn the track, be quick and to help Yann win the championship,” said Santiago Urrutia.
The Macau season finale weekend starts already on Thursday with two free practice sessions, followed by qualifying on Friday, Race 1 on Saturday, and Race 2 on Sunday.
