Lynk & Co Cyan Racing secured the 2024 FIA TCR World Tour team World Title and Thed Björk the drivers’ vice-champion title as the season concluded on the legendary streets of Macau.
“We once again proved that we are the best touring car team in the world. We are really happy to have secured our eighth world title together with Lynk & Co and our tenth world title overall of Cyan Racing in just eight years. Everyone in the team can be really proud of that achievement,” said Fredrik Wahlén, Team Manager and CEO of Cyan Racing.
The team title is Cyan Racing’s tenth touring car World Title in just eight years and the team claimed more than half of the race wins this year with the Lynk & Co 03 TCR race car.
“We are very happy and proud of Cyan Racing achieving another world title with the Lynk & Co 03 TCR. So far the team has achieved 100 podium finishes and eight world titles with this model. This shows how solidly talented the team is and also how solid Lynk & Co is when its cars can perform this successfully in touring car racing, which essentially is the highest and most competitive level of road car automotive engineering," said Alexander Murdzevski, Head of Geely Group Motorsport International.
Thed Björk won the first race of the weekend in Macau to get within just five points of championship leader Norbert Michelisz ahead of the final race.
But chaotic weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, a postponed race start and then drying conditions as the race began, meant that eighth place in Race 2. This handed Thed Björk second place in the drivers’ standings - just eleven points from the top spot.
“We are very happy to have secured the team championship title which was our main goal. We gave it all to fight for the drivers’ title today, but finishing second overall just means that I am getting faster the older I get. It has been a great season and we are going to celebrate this tonight, a big thanks to everyone involved in this project,” said Thed Björk.
Yann Ehrlacher finished the season in fifth place overall, joining team-mate Thed Björk as the only drivers with three victories this season.
“It was a difficult last race, I was pushed off into the wall but was still able to recover and take the car home. This has been a difficult year for me in the drivers’ championship but I am very happy with the team championship title which everyone has worked really hard for together,” said Yann Ehrlacher.
Ma Qing Hua finished the last race in Macau as the top Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver in fourth place, following intense overnight repairs by the team after an incident in the first race which caused severe rear-end damage to his car.
“The guys in the team did a great job to get my car ready for today. And we proved that we were quickest when the track was wet, but unfortunately we couldn’t challenge those who took a risk with slicks when the track dried up. I am happy that we secured the teams’ title and now I’m looking forward to 2025,” said Ma Qing Hua.
Santiago Urrutia had to fight hard in both races from 32nd and last place on the grid following a technical issue in qualifying. The Uruguayan driver fought his way up through the field in both races to finish 13th and 12th respectively.
“The final race was crazy and the mixed conditions made it really hard as I changed to slicks at the front and wets at the rear. We claimed the team championship title which is the main thing every year. Thed also deserved the runner-up spot, big congratulations to him. Thanks to everyone in the team and Lynk & Co for a great 2024,” said Santiago Urrutia.
